"DANCE, BABY."

Mickey loved his District. However, now that he was a Victor, people were treating him differently. Maybe they just liked his personality? Or because he got the second win? He didn't know. He was in the town square, the town was rambling with talk of the upcoming Hunger Games, and if we could possibly get another win.

It was a pleasantly sunny day outside, the type of day which enticed people out of their houses to enjoy the nice weather. Today would be perfect for flying kites or taking a walk, but all Scout wanted to do was work on her training. The Reaping was approaching dangerously close, and she had already made up her mind. This year would be her year. She was finally going to volunteer and show the world the Harpers were not a disgrace. Of course if she told anyone else about her plan they would most likely try to talk her out of it, but she was stubborn and there was no stopping her from achieving what she set out to do. With Axel gone, it was all up to her.

Unfortunately he plans of training were pushed aside when her mother decided to send her to town to pick up a few groceries. Scout tried her best to talk her way out of it, but in the end her mother won and she was sent on her way to the town square with a basket to bring home the goods. She couldn’t understand why her mother couldn’t go into town herself. The woman was a stay-at-home mom with nowhere else to go! Her father was the one who pulled in all the money with his job as a Peacekeeper.

The entire walk there all she could think about was the Reaping. Just the thought of entering the Games was enough to cause chills to crawl up and down her spine. Scout was actually excited about it, excited to be put into an arena with children her own age only to fight until there was only one standing. There had to be something wrong with that picture, but here in District Two it appeared to be the norm. She had been training all her life for this moment, and finally it was coming. It was just a matter of time before she would be on that stage, just as her brother was five years ago.

As she entered the town she could tell the Reaping wasn’t just on her mind, but the townspeople’s as well. She smiled silently to herself, finding it amusing none of these people knew they were in the midst of the next female tribute of the 25th Hunger Games, and it wasn’t just the Games but the Quarter Quell! With her mind buzzing, her attention was not all there which resulted to her knocking into someone.

“Hey! Watch where you’re…,” Scout snapped, her irritated expression dissipating and her voice softening when she realized who she had plowed into, “Oh, Mr. Waltz. I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to run into you…should have watched where I was going.” After all, he was a victor, and she knew better than to go around disrespecting a victor.

PostSubject: Re: my heart will dance,   my heart will dance, EmptyTue May 20, 2014 7:08 pm

Mickey felt a light bump, and turned around to find a girl. "You're fine, we're all human." he replied. Human? He had killed one. Doesn't this in fact make him a monster? Shouldn't he be punished for this? No. Because in Panem the Hunger Games were meant for death. This girl was treating him as if he were a god, but which he wasn't. Most people didn't treat him this highly, but maybe she had a reason. However, Mickey feels like he doesn't deserve any more respect here than anyone else. "And you can just call me Mickey,"

Scout tilted her head curiously at his remark. We’re all human? Where had that came from? Of course it was common knowledge but did he mean to say bumping into someone was a typically human thing to do? Either way she was not entirely sure what he meant by the statement. Her eyes quickly studied his features, never having been this close to the victor before. He did not look that threatening but then again she knew looks could be deceiving. No one ever thought she was a fighter, but they managed to understand once she had them on the floor surrendering the fight. Sure, they were just training fights and she didn’t really cause any damage, but that didn’t mean she couldn’t.

She clutched her basket, finding it was probably much more worth her time to talk to a victor than do the silly chores her mother had asked her to do. Maybe she could squeeze some information out of him about the Games. When he told her she could just call him Mickey, it took everything she had in her to not snicker. At the Academy where she learned to fight the trainers never allowed them to be on a first name basis. In fact, they always called her by her last name instead of her given name.

“Okay then, Mickey,” Scout replied with a small nod, though it felt odd to call him by his first name, “You probably get this a lot don’t you? Annoying little kids getting all star-struck when you walk by?” She thought it must be great: the recognition, just knowing you were the best of the best and had made your way to the top.

Then, she realized she hadn't actually introduced herself which she mentally scolded herself for. "Oh, I'm Scout, by the way, Scout Harper," she added with a polite smile which disappeared from her mouth almost instantly.

Mickey was reading this girl, but she might have not noticed. He can't help it, he's pretty natural at guessing people's moods, feelings, emotions.. actions. Maybe the girl didn't understand what he said, "Sorry, ignore what I said." For some reason after the Games, he's become a walking thesaurus, dictionary, and Dumbledore. Constantly giving knowledge, but not about himself. Everyone has already determined who he was, a killer? Surely they knew that he was not just that, did they know? Back during his Games, he became a whole new person. He would still be remembered for being a killer, always. It's a tattoo. "Not as much as you would think, no. Nice to meet you, Scout." He held out his hand for her to shake.

This victor was curious, very curious. He did not appear to be at all like the hard-headed trainers at the Academy. She was not expecting the man to be so nice and polite to her. Certainly any other victor would snap at her or speak down at her. Isn’t that was victors were supposed to do? Scout couldn’t understand this man, maybe it had to do with the fact he had not volunteered himself to go into the Games. Nodding silently to show she understood, she switched her basket so it dangled from her right hand only. “Really? I thought all victors were celebrated wherever they went. You can’t tell me people just treat you like any other person in the District. You won the Games!” she replied enthusiastically, throwing her hands in the air for effect. Her dark eyes dropped down to his hand as he extended it out for her to shake. “It’s nice to meet you too, Mr-…ah, I mean, Mickey,” Scout offered before she took his hand and gave it a firm shake. She wondered if he knew who she was. Usually just the mention of her last name was enough to give away who she was after her failure of a brother lost the Games.

This girl was clever, he had high hopes for her already. From what it seemed like, she was wondering what it was like to be a Victor herself. But she'd have to get there herself, which was a 1 out of 24 chance she would. He didn't want to get anyone's hopes up. Being a Victor isn't all what they thought it was. You must do what the Capitol says, you are now their puppet. They watch your every move. They know what you're thinking, before you think it. It wasn't so transparent. There was a whole other side of this man that this girl had not seen. The side that the Capitol will control. And if she was to win the Games, she'd really see what it was: the truth. "More like.. congratulated. 'Congratulations [on not dying a horrible death]!'" he said. "Of course I won, but that doesn't mean I should be put on a high horse. District Two has the majority of the wins anyways. The Capitol loves us. I guess you'd just have to see for yourself. Don't be one-sided. Be omnipresent." Mickey suggested.

Scout’s forehead wrinkled in confusion at what he had to say. It didn’t make sense to her. There was so much more to just being congratulated after winning the Games, wasn’t there? That’s why so many people volunteered willingly, for the payoff in the end and for the glory of bringing home a District Two victory. “Well, it certainly gives you the right to be on a high horse doesn’t it? I’m not saying your modesty isn’t admirable, but you beat twenty-three other tributes. That’s something to boast about!” she exclaimed. The voices in her head of every trainer she ever had kept telling her to win because winning meant you were the best. When you were the best nothing could touch you. When you were the best you had a right to be honored. When you were the best no one made fun of your shamed family wherever you went…

Placing her hands on her hips, she narrowed her eyes as she looked up at the man. “I am not one-sided! I know the sacrifices that need to be made to be a victor and know it is not an easy feat. I’m not daft, I know it isn’t all sunshine and daisies when you’re the winner,” she replied, her fiery personality bubbling to the surface. She cleared her throat and nervously moved some dirt around with the toe of her shoe. “A majority of the wins do, but sometimes they don’t. You’ve heard about my brother, haven’t you? Everyone has,” Scout murmured as her voice lost its edge and softened substantially.

Mickey chuckled. "You have a lot to learn," he stated. And so she did. From what he saw, this girl had been brainwashed by the means of the Capitol. He couldn't blame her, he was only to help her snap out of it, in hope that she would see this situation from a different perspective. "Boasting about killing children. That had a life like me. Had a family. Like me. Had friends. Like me. Had feelings. Like me? I don't think so, Scout. Mickey didn't mean to sound rude. But he didn't want anyone portraying him for something that he was not. His character wasn't the victor of a great defeat, the victor of the great dealing. Maybe she had something she was dealing with. Had she felt that she needed to prove herself worthy?
She was a fire, ready to burn. "I understand what you're saying. And I'm sorry that your brother.. had his passing. But you still need to understand that victory is not simply based on actions. Just by volunteering makes you brave, but you still should know what you're getting into. If that's what you're doing, I highly suggest asking around to other Victors about this. Some would tell you different than what you think. And for your brother, I'd rather die a hero than live a killer. Like he did, respectively. However, if you do volunteer, do it for him, in his honor, and try to win. But when you do kill. Do take into mind, that those children, that you kill, die heroes, victors, as well." Mickey took his breath and waited for the girl to answer. He tried to keep his voice low so they wouldn't cause a scene. "We should try not to be loud,"
