Luke wasn't in the Justice center for 3 minutes before his sisters came running in sobbing. He held both of them as tight as he could, kissing both of their foreheads. "Hey, look at me you two." he said gently. "What have I always promised?" Beth looked at him. "That you'll always come back to us?" she asked, and he nodded. "But what if you don't?" Alyssa asked, tears welling back up. Luke knew he couldn't promise that he'd be back, since only one person won. And it likely wouldn't be him or his partner. Five never won the games aside from sheer dumb luck.
Lukas looked at his dad, who refused to look him in the eye. "Dad, look at me." The man looked ashamed. "Dad!" Luke shouted, the man finally looking him in the eye, then hugging him. Lukas and his dad never hugged anymore. They hadn't since his mother died. "You get yourself home Luke, you hear? I can't lose you like I lost her..." His voice cracked and he let go, turning away. Luke knew his dad was hiding it. Joseph Becker did NOT cry. Ever. Soon they were escorted out and Luke was brought to the train. He stepped on with Anna, trying to stay calm. Seeing his dad cry unnerved him, more than saying goodbye to his friends and sisters had.
He didn't look back as he was escorted to the train, keeping his gaze straight ahead and his fists clenched. There were cameras shoved in his face but he ignored them as best as he could. Sitting on the train, he waited for his partner and their escort and mentor. He saw all the food on the tables nearby but he didn't take anything, too nervous to eat.
