Cora half-heartedly pushed the beads of sweat away from her eyes, leaving behind a steak of blood and dirt. Her gaze wandered over the horrific scene around her, avoiding the spots that had been occupied by the bodies of other tributes not too long ago. She had survived to be one of the last two tributes and this simple realization made Cora want to burst into a hysterical fit of laughter. No one could have guessed this, but here they were.

The wave of nausea that she had been holding back since the very first day returned as Cora let her mind accept what was about to occur. Everyone knew the rules, only one tribute could leave the arena alive. Not trusting herself to speak without bursting into tears, becoming sick, or worse, Cora merely nodded at Felix's words before squaring her shoulders and preparing herself for the worst.

Cora felt as if she were watching the scene from outside of her body, as if the girl standing there, covered in dirt, blood, and wounds both visible and invisible, was not her. As the light bounced off of Felix's longsword, however, she returned to reality and quickly raised her katana to push the deadly weapon away. Unfortunately her swing was slow and late, leaving herself open and allowing for the longsword to skim her right arm. The sound of metal clashing and her own pained gasp, sounds that had become quite familiar to Cora over the past few days, broke the otherwise silent arena.

Only slightly off balance due to the force of Felix's swing, Cora lunged forward and swung towards Felix's neck, hopping that the fight would be as quick and painless as possible no matter the outcome. The once timid girl was now a hardened survivor who just wanted to get home, one way or another.

Cora felt her stomach turn with both pain and nausea as she watched the damage to Felix's throat take effect. Clutching her abdomen in a feeble attempt to slow the bleeding, Cora stumbled forward, attempting to clear her vision so that she could end this. Here she was, so close to the end and yet so far. Ignoring the tears that had begun to fall harder and the sob inching its way through her chest, Cora managed to raise her katana once more before lunging towards Felix's chest so that he would not have to suffer an excruciatingly long and painful death.
